Match Reports Autumn Term 2019

FBS Year 11’s vs St James’

On one of the first few days that felt like winter had arrived, the FBS U16’s travelled to St James’ in Twickenham for the Middlesex Plate quarter final. After a convincing win against Vynners in the last 16, this would prove a much harder test against an experienced and organised outfit.

After absorbing early pressure and playing much of the first half in our own half, a break from captain and fly half, Ned, having dummied his way through the mid field, converted his own score to put FBS 7-0 up. Shortly after, Jourdane scored one of the try’s of the season, beating four defenders down the line to score under the posts. St James’ came back into it just before the break, making the score 14-5 and a small swing in momentum back St James’ way.

However, continued pressure and clever kicking from Ned pinned St James’ in their own half, resulting in our forwards having a platform from which Heavar picked up a brace of tries to seal the game. A 26-7 win just reward for the most complete performance this team have put together. Next week we welcome Isleworth and Syon in the semi final with the allure of a trip to Saracens’ Allianz Park in the final next week.

FBS Year 8’s vs UCS

In a riveting match against UCS the Year 8 Rugby team came out on top with a 5-2 win. This was the first time these teams met.

FBS knew that if they made their tackles and made the right call, they could win the game, and that’s exactly what they did. A beautiful try from a dodging Vincent S put us ahead and boosted our moral tremendously. UCS came back with their own try, but that didn’t faze us. Our scrum was exquisite and a ball was played out to the pacey Timi A who ran past his defender and dived for the try-line, putting us ahead. An almost identical try was scored before half-time with Oscar J-A stepping past 2 defenders and grounding the ball before he could be tackled. An unfortunate injury for one of our fastest players Joel S on the brink of half-time meant he was substituted for Josh F who went to Lock for Tom B who moved to outside center. Our defense was amazing barely letting the opposition break the line, except for when their big and fast players came steam-rolling down the pitch, who were usually tackled by our full-back. A scrum to UCS at their 5m line led to fumble after Eddie J tackled their player led to Jasper L pouncing on the ball to make it 4-1. After a few minutes of the first half, George C came on for Henry T at full-back, Theo N came on for Timi A at right wing and Jonai P came on for Marjym D at prop. UCS started to gain more ground and eventually scored a well worked try through their stepping full-back. Their momentum carried on with an amazing run from their inside-center who was quickly stopped in their tracks by George C. they worked the ball to the other corner where George C was injured in the tackle and replaced by Joel S who had recovered fine. In one of the last plays of the game Freddie W made a brilliant line break on the halfway line and shoved the full-back away leading to our fifth and last try to seal the game.

FBS played extremely well and a good argument could be made for it being the best they’ve played. They were the dominant side and deserved to win.
