WORLD BOOK DAY – Thursday 5th March
This Thursday is World Book Day and FBS is excited to be holding several exciting events to mark the occasion. Literacy is fundamental to the success of the boys at this school and we are using 5th March as an opportunity to promote its importance.
World Book Day Fancy Dress
We are asking staff and students to dress up as any character from a favourite book. House prizes will definitely be given for the best outfits.

Fundraising for the National Literacy Trust
On Sunday 22nd March, Mr Jeeps and Ms Johnson will be taking part in the Where’s Wally Fun Run to raise money for the National Literacy Trust. We would like to use World Book Day to begin fundraising for this event and are therefore asking for a donation of £1 per boy in exchange for the privilege of wearing their fancy dress.
FBS Reading Relay
Also on World Book Day, we are planning to hold a ‘reading relay’ whereby everybody in the school will read for 5 minutes. This will be recorded on time-lapse to show the school’s commitment to reading. We ask that your son brings his favourite book to school or borrows one from the school library so that they can participate.
Supporting World Book Day at Home
It would be great if you could show your support for World Book Day by promoting reading at home. Recent studies have proven that reading for pleasure is the single most important factor in helping children to make progress in school. Even reading for ten minutes a night makes a huge difference so why not use World Book Day to get back into the habit?
